About OPEnE

OPEnE is a collective of like-minded individuals passionate about collaborative engagement. We believe that education can instill values that empower communities and facilitate sustainable socio economic change. We aim to build and strengthen systems that promote inclusivity, climate justice, disaster preparedness, and social cohesion at the community level.

What We Do

The Organization of People for Engagement and Enterprise (OPEnE) is a local, grassroots non-pro t development organization. OPEnE was established in 2016 and is based in the Mannar district of Northern Sri Lanka.

Marine and fisheries sustainability

We are dedicated to creating a positive impact on the environment and championing sustainability.

Community capacity building and women’s empowerment

Empower communities and women for sustainable development and increased participation in various spheres.

Education and child rights

Working closely with the local schools and communities to implement our English language, digital education and self-learning programs.

Social cohesion and peace building

Social cohesion is the strength and solidarity among community members, and we promote it in schools and communities.

Economic empowerment

Economic empowerment involves both the ability to succeed and advance financially and the power to make and act on economic decisions.

Food, Climate and Natural Resources

Food production is vital for affordable child nutrition, and sustainable, climate-smart practices can economically empower households and enhance well-being.

Disaster Preparedness and Response

This consists of a set of measures to better respond and cope with the immediate aftermath of a disaster, whether it be human-made or caused by natural hazards.
