Food Security, Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture

Nourishing Communities through Food Forestry

Our Objective: To empower communities to enhance food security and sustainable agriculture

We aim to address the food insecurity in Sri Lanka caused by the economic crisis, overreliance on imports and climate-induced crop failures through a climate-smart, community-led food forestry initiative. Supporting 720 households, the project promotes sustainable home gardening using a seven-layered food forestry model, while training local agricultural input providers to boost rural livelihoods. Through the Participatory Integrated Plan (PIP) approach and peer-to-peer learning, farmers are empowered to take ownership of their food systems, restore soil health, and reduce dependence on food imports. By working closely with government agencies, the project integrates local action with national strategies for food security, climate adaptation, and rural development—planting the seeds for long-term change.
